The War Ends; Grief Keeps Office Hours

Brothers and sisters, a ceasefire is not a receipt marked “paid in full.” Words attributed to Prince Harry in Kyiv speak of trauma after the front, strain at home, and years of uncertainty and grief. Whether every word is his is not established here; the human point is plain: this does not end when the war ends. A podium cannot order a family’s sorrow to stand down.

Some public leaders act as if the front has a clock-out button, and pressing it sends every obligation home too. Tidy bookkeeping, if you never have to sit with the unanswered questions. The ceasefire may close the front; it cannot close the kitchen table. Peace is not the announcement that duty is over. It is the start of showing up for the people still carrying the cost.
