The Ground Hasn’t Received the Peace Memo
There is a peculiar peace that reaches the podium before it reaches the ground. Officials may declare the fighting over, but landmines and unexploded ordnance still make ordinary life dangerous for civilians. A speech can announce a new chapter; a family still needs to know where it is safe to step.
Recovery means patient clearance work, not just a ceremony with polished shoes and solemn faces. The workers making the ground safer deserve more than a passing mention, and children deserve room to walk without inheriting the war’s hidden leftovers. Peace be with us—and may the ground receive the press release when it is finally safe.
