Political promises of better living conditions still have to pass the household budget, an auditor that accepts no applause as payment. The promises-versus-prices scoreboard lists affordability as still squeezed, gas at $4.09, housing at 6.3%, no 50% energy cut, and unemployment at 4.4%. Those are the scoreboard’s claims, not a fully defined audit; the numbers arrive without the dates or measuring rules a serious ledger would demand.
But the practical test needs no rally lighting: did relief reach the people paying for gas, housing, energy, and the rest of the month? A campaign can call the score settled. A family still balancing those bills is entitled to ask for receipts. Promises count when they change the arithmetic, not when the applause gets loud enough to drown out the calculator.
