Call it Riverdale Mill: the workers get the economic storm warning, and the donor table gets a lobbyist asking whether anyone needs a friendlier rule. That is the bargain this pro-wealth politics sells—closed mill, strained town, and a family told to brace, while tax breaks for the rich and weaker rules for powerful interests are presented as sensible housekeeping. The people absorbing the damage are supposed to call it weather.
Meanwhile, privatizing public services and expanding corporate power get the polish of a plan. Public needs are costs; private advantages are growth. That is donor-first logic in a nice suit: workers can wait out the storm, but wealthy interests merit prompt service, fresh ice, and a policy binder brought to the table. For workers, austerity is weather. For donors, it comes with concierge service.
